Vanlife Scotland, solo roadtrip with Alba Campers, DJV Outdoors

Vanlife Scotland

Vanlife Scotland – Two words that if you type into a YouTube search bar, it will turn up all sorts of videos from the North Coast 500 to the Cairngorms National Park. Scotland is vast and so beautiful that you simply have to visit at least once in this lifetime. Since walking the west highland way in 2019 I’ve made a commitment to visit every year.

This time I decided to hire a camper van and take it all the way to the Isle of Skye over a few days.

I picked Alba Campers based on reviews and pricing and it’s location just south of Edinburgh.

I met Steven and he showed me around my campervan I had chosen. It has everything you need. Stove, sink, table which converts into a bed and storage space. I was on my own but it has plenty of room for a family.

And so I made my way up towards Fort William passing through the stunning Glencoe. Perhaps my next trip with Alba Campers will be here! Plenty of places to pull up overnight. Upon reaching Fort William I got some supplies and continued onto the Kyle of Lochalsh and over the Skye Bridge.

I used the park for the night app and found a great spot in Broadford to sleep overnight, it rained heavily which added to the cosy effect of sleeping in this extremely comfortable van. I took a duvet and sleeping bag to keep me warm. It was November after all!

The next day I headed up the coast taking in the old man of storr and the old bridge, the weather was sunny and breezy, the views out to sea were incredible it was hard to believe you were still in the UK and have to say the Isle of Skye was probably a Glencoe beater but only just!

I once again consorted with the park for the night app to find a suitable spot and did my first bit of wild camping, a lovely spot for the van right on top of the cliffs, in the far off distance I could see snow capped mountains and watched a sea freighter battle the winds and high waves as it headed out to sea.

I kept warm in the van and used the stove at the back to make a brew and watched the light fade from the van as I drank my tea. The van really had everything I needed for this trip.

The next day I headed back to Edinburgh. This was my first van camping trip and I cannot recommend Alba Campers enough. Take a look at some of the photos on their website of the van. It is very comfortable, very warm and has all the items you need for overnight van camping.

Whatever trip you plan in Scotland these vans won’t let you down!
